The Trio
There is very little information available on the group known as the ‘Trio’ although it is quite clear that they work for the ‘staff’ of the asylum or at least the highest echelons of the staff hierarchy. They seem to be the only inhabitants of the asylum that seem to pass freely between that realm and the material (real or our) world acting as scouts for new inmates, amongst other things. Their true form and origin is unknown.
The three members if the Trio are:
The Jester - seen most frequently in the material world wearing his normal king’s jester ensemble, his presence spells disaster for those around him but unfortunately few realise the potential danger in his appearance. Sometimes at carnivals and fairs, other times in places where he simply does not fit in, he seems to employ unearthly powers in manipulating the minds of his subjects. Focussing heavily on finding new ‘patients’, one example of his discoveries was the patient known as the ‘Laughing Man’. More often than not, those transcending into the Asylum due to his influence end up suffering from all manner of trauma - as in the case of the Laughing Man, uncontrollable hysteria. Why he seeks out new inmates and the reason for the trauma is unknown.
The appearance of this character apart from this outfit is of an impish looking man but not un an ugly or repulsive way - in fact he has a good natured face; one that you would be entertained by and one that you would most likely trust.
The Riddler - the most elusive of the three, the appearance of this individual seems to denote a special occurance. He is also the hardest to explain for his role and motivations are unknown. The little information that is available is that his name is derived from the fact that he speaks in ‘tongues’ and riddles - seeming bound by them, if offering solace to those that correctly answer, he seems to have to keep his word. On the other hand, he possesses devasting destructive power for those ignorant enough to answer incorrectly or to attack him.
The appearance of the Riddler seems to change with his very appearance although his face is always covered, either by a mask or by a hood.
The Fool - many people question the existence of the Fool in the triplet but there is little question that he is in fact the most powerful of the three. Unfortunately he also seems to be highly intellectually challenged and his actions are often difficult to understood. He almost enjoys ‘playing’ with the ‘toys’ in the material world and unlike the others, does not necessarily wish destruction and suffering on others. He is not often seen in the presence of the others; it seems as if the other two ‘tolerate’ his existence but do not wish to spend more time around him than is needed.
His appearance is always of a plump rotund (but large in stature) man wearing clothing usually of different and clashing colours. He seems to genuinely be fascinated by children in particular and finds pleasure in amusing them with various tricks, feats and actions.
-----
However it must be noted that all three of these individuals are highly dangerous and while they spend more time in the material world than that of the Asylum (except perhaps the Riddler), they should be approached with caution within the asylum walls. If found during travels in the material world, one hopes that they have no interest in YOU.
